DOZENS IN TEXAS TOWN REPORT UFO

Sent in by Betty C.

Monday, January 14, 2008

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - In this farming community where nightfall usually brings clear, starry skies, residents are abuzz over reported sightings of what many believe is a UFO.

Several dozen people - including a pilot, county constable and business owners - insist they have seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast. Some reported seeing fighter jets chasing it.

"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times," said Steve Allen, a freight company owner and pilot who said the object he saw last week was a mile long and half a mile wide. "It was positively, absolutely nothing from these parts."

While federal officials insist there's a logical explanation, locals swear that it was larger, quieter, faster and lower to the ground than an airplane. They also said the object's lights changed configuration, unlike those of a plane. People in several towns who reported seeing it over several weeks have offered similar descriptions of the object.

Machinist Ricky Sorrells said friends made fun of him when he told them he saw a flat, metallic object hovering about 300 feet over a pasture behind his Dublin home. But he decided to come forward after reading similar accounts in the Stephenville Empire-Tribune.

"You hear about big bass or big buck in the area, but this is a different deal," Sorrells said. "It feels good to hear that other people saw something, because that means I'm not crazy."

Sorrells said he has seen the object several times. He said he watched it through his rifle's telescopic lens and described it as very large and without seams, nuts or bolts.

Maj. Karl Lewis, a spokesman for the 301st Fighter Wing at the Joint Reserve Base Naval Air Station in Fort Worth, said no F-16s or other aircraft from his base were in the area the night of Jan. 8, when most people reported the sighting.

Lewis said the object may have been an illusion caused by two commercial airplanes. Lights from the aircraft would seem unusually bright and may appear orange from the setting sun.

"I'm 90 percent sure this was an airliner," Lewis said. "With the sun's angle, it can play tricks on you."

Officials at the region's two Air Force bases - Dyess in Abilene and Sheppard in Wichita Falls - also said none of their aircraft were in the area last week. The Air Force no longer investigates UFOs.

One man has offered a reward for a photograph or videotape of the mysterious object.

About 200 UFO sightings are reported each month, mostly in California, Colorado and Texas, according to the Mutual UFO Network, which plans to go to the 17,000-resident town of Stephenville to investigate.

Fourteen percent of Americans polled last year by The Associated Press and Ipsos say they have seen a UFO.

Erath County Constable Lee Roy Gaitan said that he first saw red glowing lights and then white flashing lights moving fast, but that even with binoculars could not see the object to which the lights were attached.

"I didn't see a flying saucer and I don't know what it was, but it wasn't an airplane, and I've never seen anything like it," Gaitan said. "I think it must be some kind of military craft - at least I hope it was."

National Airlines plane en route to National Airport, about 60 mi. SW of the city observed a blue- white ball of light hovering to the west. Object then "came up to 11,000 ft. [and] then maintained a parallel course, on the same level, at the same speed, until the aircraft pilot turned on all lights. Object then departed from the vicinity at an estimated 1000 m.p.h. Weather was excellent for observation." The crew said the object "took off up and away." No other air traffic was reported in the area at the time. (AF Int.)

July 14: 2012 EDT.

Newport News, Va. Southbound Pan American Airways plane at 8,000 ft. nearing the Norfolk, Va, area observed six glowing red, circular objects approaching below the airliner; objects flipped up on edge in unison and then sped from behind and under the airliner and joined the in-line formation, which "climbed in a graceful arc above the altitude of the airliner." "Then the lights blinked out one by one, though not in sequence." Next day the crew was thoroughly interrogated by AFOSI, and advised that they already had seven other reports of red discs moving at high speed and making sharp turns. (UFOE, p. 38-39.)

July 16: 2200 EDT.

Hampton Roads, Va. A Government aeronautical research engineer observed two amber-colored lights approaching from the south at about 500 m.p.h. These slowed and made a U-turn, revolved around each other at a high rate of speed, then joined by two other objects from different directions, the four sped off to the south at about 500 m.p.h. "They moved jerkily when moving slowly. Their ability to make tight circling turns was amazing." (UFOE, p. 57; Ruppelt , p. 210-211, gives time as 2100 hrs.)

1956, USA, Capt. Raymond E. Ryan:

Capt. Ryan and his first officer William Neff were flying from Albany, New York to Syracuse. At a height of 6,000 feet, the two observed a brilliant white light like an approaching aircraft with landing lights on. Ryan estimated that the object was moving at approximately 1,000 miles per hour -- faster than any object of the day --. The UFO glowed orange in front of them. Ryan and Neff reported the encounter to Griffith Air Force Base. The Base confirmed that they also could see an orange object nearby. This sighting lasted over twenty minutes and was also witnessed by the flight attendant, Phyllis Reynolds.

Driving to their home in New Hampshire, Betty and Barney Hill notice a bright light in the sky. Radar reports at the nearby Pease Air Force Base also record something in the air at that time. The Hills examine the light through binoculars, and see a structured object with flashing lights. Barney walks across a field for a closer look, and sees beings looking back at him. Frightened, he and Betty drive home, arriving two hours later then expected. They cannot account for the missing time (a common phenomenon among abductees) until they undergo regressive hypnosis. The couple describe being stopped by the UFO and taken aboard the saucer for medical examination. Due to the impressive documentation and the confirming radar trace from Pease Air Force Base, the Hill case is one of the most famous on record.

Eight states - Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont -- lost power in this power failure --. Although a faulty automatic relay device at a plant near Niagara Falls is blamed, there is evidence that UFOs can cause power failures in the national electricity grid systems, although this may only be a side effect rather than an intentional act. Specifically, this power failure is thought to have been instigated by the Hive to prevent the airing of the "Monkey Film" on national television. In August of 1947 an Italian artist by the name of Rapuzzi Johannis was taking a leisurely walk in the mountains between Italy and Yugoslavia. He saw just in front of him a red glowing saucer. This saucer was about thirty feet wide and it was accompanied by two small dwarf-like creatures. These creatures had very large heads with green faces, sort of resembling that of a fish. They also had a circle around each eye. Apparently one of the creatures had hit Johannis with an electrical ray which left him very weak and almost paralyzed. After this incident the creatures ignored Johannis and left.

After this the crew above deck were nauseous and disoriented. And the test on the USS Eldridge was done on Aug 12 1943. This is the test where Al and the ship were teleported to Montauk, Long Island to 1983. An older Von Neumann said Bielek and his brother must destroy the equipment to turn the field generators off. They did so, and the fields collapsed out of sync. When they returned 4 hours later, 4 crew were dead from being embedded in the hull, and one had his hand embedded in the hull, but survived. Another brother of Bielek was embedded in the hull. Only his head and shoulders were above the hull. He died eventually. In late Oct 1943, 10:00pm, they did another test, without crew. The ship appeared in Norfolk harbor, VA for 10-15 minutes. When it returned, they found a generator was missing, 2 transmitter cabinets, and the control room was a smoking ruins. 1742, December 16, from an account by a Fellow of the Royal Society, England:

I was crossing St James park when a light rose from behind the trees and houses, from the south and west, which at first I thought was a rocket of large size. But when it rose 20 degrees, it moved parallel to the horizon, but waved like this (the speaker drew an undulating line) and went on in the direction of north-by-east. It seemed very near. Its motion was very slow. I had it for about half a mile in view. A light flame was turned backwards by the resistance the air made to it. From one of burning charcoal. That end was a frame like bars of iron, and quite opaque in my sight. At one point on the longitudinal frame, or cylinder, it issued a train in the shape of a tail of light more bright at one point on the rod or cylinder; so that it was transparent for more than half of its length. The head of this strange object seemed about a half a degree in diameter and the tail near three degrees in length.

1700, United States, Indians:

In the US, there is an 18th century Indian legend about luminous humanoid beings who paralyzed people with a small tube. In variations of these tales, Indian women were even said to have married a couple of these "star people".

1783, Windsor Castle, England:

Members of the Royal Academy reported and illustrated the UFO they witnessed.

France, 1790, Police Inspector Liabeuf:

During the summer, Police Inspector Liabeuf witnessed and investigated a large red globe as it flew over farmland. The globe landed and a man came out and spoke in a language none understood. The globe then exploded and the man disappeared. The event was witnessed by many and is well documented. (Except that the documentation was hoaxed by a dishonest ufologist.)

1870, from the log account of a ship’s captain, F. W. Banner:

The sailors saw a remarkable object or cloud in the sky. It was a cloud of circular form, with an included semi-circle divided into four parts, the central dividing shaft beginning at the center of the circle and extending far outward, and then curving backward. The thing traveled from a point 20 degrees above the horizon to a point about 80 degrees above. Then it settled down to the northeast, having appeared from the south, southeast. It came up obliquely against the wind, and finally settled down in the wind’s eye. For half an hour this form was visible, then it finally did disappear.

1878, flying saucers:

The term saucer was used by a Texan farmer to describe an object seen over his farm. The term was popularized in 1948 when Kenneth Arnold saw a formation of objects over the Cascade Mountains of Washington State and described them as moving like a saucer would if you skipped it across water. This image inspired a local reporter to coin the term 'flying saucer'.

1880, Persian Gulf:

Members of the crew of the British India Company's steamship 'Patna' witnessed two large luminous wheels each estimated to be 500 to 600 meters in diameter. The wheels were spinning, one on each side of the ship, and the spokes touching the ship. The sighting lasted 20 minutes and was witnessed by Captain Avern, third officer Manning, and Lee Fort Brace.

1880, USA:

Nicolai Tesla invents the A/C current system.

1883, Mexico:

This sighting is the first photographed UFO sighting. At the Zacatecas Observatory, Jose A. Y. Bonilla sighted several hundred discs like objects crossing the sun. Similar sightings occurred the following day. The general opinion was that th objects were merely a flock of birds.

1886, USA, Colorado:

Nicolai Tesla tests a death ray in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA and all electrical apparatus of a Colorado fuel company were rendered useless.

1893, North China Sea:

In February of 1893, the ship, H.M.S. Carolina was sailing in the North China Sea, when a report from an officer of unusual light activity in the sky came to the attention of Captain J.N. Norcross. The officer told Captain Norcross that the lights appeared sometimes in a huge mass, others spread out in unusual patterns. He said that they resembled Chinese lanterns set between the masts of a ship. The next night these strange lights reappeared but with a reddish glow and emitting small amounts of smoke.

1896, USA:

First "flap year" for UFOs: wave of sightings of unidentified airships in U.S.

1897, Sworn statement from Alexander Hamilton, at his farm in LeRoy Kansas:

"Last night about 10:30 we were awakened by a noise among the cattle. I arose, thinking that perhaps my bulldog was performing his pranks, but upon going to the door saw to my utter astonishment that an airship was slowly descending upon my cow lot, about 40 rods from the house"

Hamilton also described it as a cigar shaped portion, about 300 feet long with a carriage underneath. The carriage was of some transparent material. It was brightly lighted within. It contained six of the strangest beings he had ever seen.

1897, USA:

A small cigar-shaped blimp was seen from San Francisco to Chicago this spring by many people. In April blimp-shaped craft crashed into Judge J. F. Proctor's windmill in Aurora, Texas. People found a tiny non-human pilot and a log written in an unknown language. The being is still buried in the Aurora cemetery.

1899, USA:

Nicolai Tesla discovers terrestrial stationary waves which can produce electricity; reports receiving signals from another planet.

1900, USA:

Tesla suggests alien beings might be living "in the very midst of us". Tesla tests his wireless transmission of energy in Colorado Springs. Dynamos of a Colorado electricity company were disabled 6 miles away.

1908, June 30, USSR, Siberia:

An explosion occurs over Tunguska (in Siberia), Russia, which is heard for 620 miles around. Some speculate this could have been a test of Tesla's energy weapon, in Tesla's last attempt to get some more funding for his planet-wide wireless power transmission system. Some say it was a meteor or UFO crashing, but there was no crater. It flattened 500,000 acres of trees for miles around. It was equivalent to 10-15 megatons of TNT. Whole nomad villages disappeared.

1908, June 30, England, London:

This week, 3 letters in the London Times reported that from about 12 midnight to 2am, the northern sky glowed a reddish color. It was so bright that people could read by it. Some scientists attributed it to disturbances in the sun's prominences, some to the Aurora Borealis. On Jun 30 (Tuesday) there was a marked disturbance in magnets. However, the glow was just as bright Wed night, but magnets were not disturbed. Perhaps this was due to the Tunguska, Siberia explosion on Jun 30, 1908.

1915, France, Hill 60:

During World War I, a regiment of the British Army, the 1st 4th Norfolk, disappeared in an attempt to take Hill 60 at Suvla Bay near Gallipoli. In front of 22 witnesses, the regiment --- over 800 men --- marched into a strange formation of lenticular clouds hovering over Hill 60 and were never seen again. Posted as missing, the regiment was thought to have been captured. After the war, Britain demanded the return of the regiment, but the Turks denied any knowledge of the regiment's existence. No trace of the regiment has ever been found.

1917, Portugal, Fatima:

I was researching the Secrets of Fatima and the supposed Marian apparition that appeared in Fatima, Portugal in 1917 when I happened across something that surprised me greatly. A UFO sighting had taken place before a crowd of somewhere between 50,000 - 100,000 people! The story given was that a silver disc appeared just as "the rain stopped and the clouds rolled back, the sun dimmed out and everything took on a gray, opaque appearance". The disc then dove in an erratic, zig-zag pattern at the crowd, stopped just above their heads and then slowly maneuvered back into the sky. As it faded from view, the sun brightened and began to shine again normally. Most importantly, a photo was taken of the disc by a local reporter! After looking at the disc in the photo I could see striking similarities to numerous other UFO images. How likely is it that a UFO sighting involving 50,000+ people (and the photo) were a carefully planned UFO hoax... in 1917 ???

1919, Western World

RENAISSANCE:

Author Unknown

1528, at the Siege of Utrecht in Holland:

A cruel and strange sight was seen in the sky, which terrified the townspeople and made the enemy think he would get the city. It was the form of a Burgundian cross right over the city, high in the sky, yellow in color, and fearful to behold.

1554, March 10, France:

There appeared between 6 and 8 PM, about the moon, a burning fire, emitting a great noise, what seemed to be the point of a lance, turning form side to side, from east to west, casting out flames on all sides.

1561, Nurnberg, Germany:

An aerial battle occured and has been pictured.

1566, Basle, Switzerland:

1643, March 11, England, from the diarist John Evelyn:

I must not forget what amazed us exceedingly the night before, namely, a shining cloud in the air in a shape resembling a sword, the point reaching to the north. It was as bright as the moon, the rest of the sky being very serene. It began about 11 at night and vanished not till about one, being seen by all the south of England.

1697, HAMBURG, GERMANY:

illustrated observation of two "glowing wheels".

MIDDLE AGE:

Unknown Author

776 AD, from a chronicle by W. R. Drake:

"Those watching outside in that place, of whom many still live to this very day, saw they beheld the likeness of two large shields, reddish in color in motion above the church, and when the pagans who were outside saw this sign, they were at once thrown into confusion and terrified with fear and began to flee from the castle."

800 AD, Peru, huge strips:

Aerial landing strips are built in the Peruvian Andes.

810 AD, Charlemagne:

St. Gregory of Tours, a historian, wrote of Charlemagne:
"Alcuin, the secretary and biographer of Charlemagne, and author of the Vita Karoli, states in the thirty second chapter of his work that in 810 when he was on his way from Aachen, he saw a large sphere descend like lightning from the sky. It traveled from east to west and was so bright it made the monarch's horse rear up so that Charlemagne fell and injured himself severely."

1100 AD, India:

Vimanas (silent flying machines) written of in Indian vedantic texts.

1235, Pacific:

General Yoritsume was at military camp with his unit on September 24, 1235, when a most extraordinary phenomenon was sighted. Through the night and into the early morning lights in the sky were seen swinging, circling, and looping. General Yoritsume had some astronomers working for him investigate this phenomenon. They came up with perhaps the first explanation offered for UFOs, 'The whole thing is completely natural, General, it is only the wind making the stars sway'.

1239, England, from Matthew of Paris:

On July 24, 1239 at dusk, but not when the stars came out, while the air was clear, serene and shining, a great star appeared. It was like a torch, rising from the south, and flying on both sides of it, there was emitted in the height of the sky a very great light. It turned quickly towards the north in the aery region, not quickly, nor, indeed, with speed, but exactly as it wished to ascend to a place high in the air.

1254, January 1, from Matthew of Paris:

At midnight in the clear and serene sky with the stars shining and the moon eight days old, there suddenly appeared in the sky a kind of large ship, elegantly shaped, and well-equipped of marvelous color. Certain monks of St. Albans saw it for a long time, as if it were painted, and a ship made of planks, but finally it began to disappear.”

1290, Byland, North Yorkshire, from William of Newburghs Chronicle:

"While the abbot and monks were in the refectorium, a flat round, shining, silvery object (discus) flew over the abbey and caused the utmost terror."

The text is known as "The Ampleforth Manuscript", it is a very old manuscript found in Ampleforth Abbey which gives a startling account of a flying saucer over Byland Abbey in Yorkshire. The event is reported to have been witnessed by monks in the year 1290.

Curious fact:

In the Middle Ages, as a result of so many UFO sightings, laws came onto the statute books that imposed a penalty on anybody traveling in an airship.

Curious fact:

An ancient cave drawing known as "The White Lady of Brandenburg" in South Africa depicts a lady dressed in a short pullover, gloves, garters, and slippers. Behind her is a figure with a pipe in hand, and he wears some sort of helmet.

Curious fact:

Another ancient cave drawing in Lussac France also shows figures dressed in modern clothes. In addition, despite being a verifiably ancient cave drawing, they are drawn in a style which interweaves modern realism and French impressionistic manners.

1332, Uxbridge: November 4, from Robert of Reading:

In the first hours of the night, there was seen in the skies over Uxbridge England, a pillar of fire the size of a small boat, pallid, and livid in color. It rose from the south, crossed the sky with a slow and grave motion, and went north. Out of the front of the pillar, a fervent red flame burst forth with great beams of light. Its speed increased as it flew through the air.”

1492, October 11, 10:00 PM, from "The Life and Voyages of Christopher Columbus":

Christopher Columbus and Pedro Gutierrez while on the deck of the Santa Maria, observed, "a light glimmering at a great distance." It vanished and reappeared several times during the night, moving up and down, "in sudden and passing gleams." It was sighted 4 hours before land was sighted, and taken by Columbus as a sign they would soon come to land.
